Impact Report 2024
2024 was a year in which we resolutely continued to build on the transitions needed for a CO2-neutral, fossil-free, circular, and inclusive society. In this report, we show how StartGreen, together with entrepreneurs and investors, has contributed to this development – from energy storage and circular production to diverse entrepreneurship.
We don't just show impact figures, we also share stories. In the Founders’ Note, our founders Laura Rooseboom and Coenraad de Vries share their vision on current geopolitical developments and look both back and forward. Additionally, the report features stories from entrepreneurs, insights from partners such as the European Investment Bank (EIB), and fund teams working on progress with lasting impact every day.
We hope it inspires you to invest with us in the future well-being of people and planet.
Our impact at a glance
Last year our funds in the middle 34 loans and investments nearly €63 million in new capital switched off. This has resulted in the impact shown below. ItTotal Assets Under Management (AUM) grew to €670 million, which means we have comfortably passed the half billion mark.

Theme of the year: energy storage
Now that renewable energy generation has significantly increased, smart storage is becoming indispensable for the next phase of the energy transition. We are seeing many promising innovations with strong business cases, yet many innovative storage projects are finding it difficult to secure funding.
In this report, we dive into the challenges and opportunities of energy storage with Nienke Rijpstra (Investment Director) – and show how StartGreen makes a difference with tailored financing.
Entrepreneur Stories
Our funds

Energiefonds Overijssel
‘’Our a total CO₂ reduction of 387,645 tonnes is equivalent to the annual energy consumption (gas and electricity) of 175,000 households – almost equal to the combined energy consumption of the municipalities of Zwolle, Enschede and Almelo. A fantastic result that really energises us.”

PDENH
“Thanks to well-performing companies that continued to grow and delivered even more CO2 reduction and social return, our portfolio remained robust in 2024. We saw major leaps for future impact – especially through R&D at ventures like Thorizon, RGS Development, E-magy, and Asperitas.”

Borski Fund
‘We enable diverse leaders to drive sustainable change. By prioritising both diversity and environmental impact, we are shaping a future where innovation can flourish through inclusion. As our portfolio grows, so does the impact we make.’’

What drives us – from the Founder’s Note
“We are seeing new momentum in the funding of local energy projects, as accelerating the energy transition also strengthens energy independence and resilience. At the same time, entrepreneurs are more determined than ever, and investors are increasingly aligning their capital with impact. Despite growing geopolitical uncertainty and an increasingly challenging climate around diversity and inclusion, this strengthens our conviction that this is precisely the moment to step forward – not backward.’’
